ABOUT
Originally built in 1935 as a single screen cinema, the Garden Theatre underwent several renovations until closing in 1963, falling victim to the popularity of television. The City of Winter Garden purchased the building in 2002, turning over restoration efforts to the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation. The joint effort between the Foundation and the City culminated in the successful reopening in 2008 with the Theatre retaining its historic elements. This includes its art deco and Mediterranean Revival architectural style (modeled after a Spanish courtyard), Romeo and Juliet balconies, and a dark blue ceiling resplendent with stars. The Theatre’s iconic retro marquee entices passersby with the latest entertainment options.
In 2024, the City of Winter Garden assumed direct management of Theatre operations including entertainment programming and was relaunched with a new name - Garden Theatre on Plant – along with a rebranded logo, to honor the Theatre’s heritage and ensuring the Theatre remains a local gem for culture, entertainment, and community.
